PAWTUCKET, RI - Six Western Connecticut State University spring student-athletes have been honored for Little East Conference weekly awards, for the week ending March 19.
After Saturday's 16-7 victory over Regis College, three WestConn men's lacrosse players reaped honors from the league.
MEN'S LACROSSE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cullen Roberts (Somers, Conn.)
Cullen Roberts played well in the Colonials only game last week, dominating the middle in win over Regis. Roberts collected five ground balls and caused four turnovers.
MEN'S LACROSSE GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Patrick Tynan (Somers, Conn.)
Tynan recorded the win for the Colonials last week as he defended the goal for 52:47 minutes and allowed six goals and recorded 14 saves.
MEN'S LACROSSE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Eric Caldwell (East Moriches, N.Y.)
Eric Caldwell scored four goals and tallied three assists for a total of seven points last week in the Colonials' 16-7 win over Regis (Mass.). Caldwell had eight shots on goal and added one ground ball.
A pair of WestConn women's lacrosse players were honored this week after their team went 2-1 in Port Charlotte, FL.
GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Missy O'Donnell (Bridgeport, Conn.)
In three games this week, O'Donnell accumulated 20 saves in 180 minutes to lead the Colonials to a 2-1 record.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brooke Baldelli (New Fairfield, Conn.)
Freshman Brooke Baldelli scored a total of eight goals and added two assists for a total of 10 points on the week. Baldelli added four draw controls and 14 shots on goal. The Colonials went 2-1 on the week.
Rounding out the honorees from WestConn this week was senior first baseman Frank Vartuli (Westport, CT).
BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Frank Vartuli (Westport, Conn.)
Western Connecticut State's Vartuli blasted four home runs with three doubles for a total of 21 RBIs in 12 games last week. Vartuli had a hit in nine of the 12 games played, including seven multi-hit games.
