    GORHAM, ME–  Senior Kayla Nowak (North Branford, Conn.) hit a solo h ome run to lead off the eighth inning, and sophomore Angelina Miller (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) was able to retire the side in the bottom of the inning as the Western Connecticut State University softball team earned their 5-4 extra-inning win in game one of a doubleheader split at the University of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon at USM Softball Stadium.

With the victory, the Colonials improved to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in league play, while the Vikings dropped to 3-10 and 0-5.

Junior midfielder Lauren Bradshaw (Bethel, CT) added a scoring strike and dished out a game-high five assists for the Colonials, who dropped to 3-11 overall and 0-4 in league play. The Panthers improved to 10-3 and 4-0.
