DANBURY, CT - Freshman first baseman Peter Nanos (Farmington, CT) doubled in the tying and game-winning run with a double down the left-field line to left the Western Connecticut State University baseball team to a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over Ramapo College on Monday afternoon at Westside Field.

The Colonials, 15-17, trailed, 5-3 heading into the seventh inning.  Senior co-captain Jeff John (Trumbull, CT) worked out a one-out walk then stole second base.  James Annello (Waterford, CT) singled to right field and drove in John to make it 5-4.  After Bobby Coyne (Clinton, CT) reached on a fielder's choice, Nick Briatico (Bristol, CT) laced a double past third baseman Kyle Doerr (Bound Brook, NJ).  Nanos game to the plate singled through the left side to plate seniors Coyne and Briatico.

Alex Roger (Southington, CT) came on in relief of eventual winner Joe Costa (Hopewell Jct, NY) to record the hold.  Rob Valunas (Oakville, CT) closed out the ninth inning and recorded his fifth save of the season.

Costa allowed just two hits over two and one third innings and struck out one for his first career victory.  He is now 1-0 on the season.

Tyler Eastwood (Newington, CT) started for Western and allowed five runs, only one of them earned over the first five innings.  He struck out three and walked one while yielding just four hits.

For Ramapo, now 21-16-1 and seeking an ECAC Tournament berth next week, Mark Doyle (Howell, NJ) suffered the loss after coming on in the seventh inning for starter Chris Beischer (Cliffside Park, NJ).

Leading the offense for the Colonials were Annello, Briatico and Tre' Gause (Brookfield, CT) who each had two hits.

Joe Venturino (Barnegat Light, NJ) was the only Roadrunner to record multiple hits as he went 2-for-3.

Western will celebrate Senior Day on Tuesday, April 29 when its plays host to Manhattanville College in a non-league doubleheader.  First pitch is slated for 4 pm.
