    BOSTON, MA – The Western Connecticut baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader (4-0 and 12-4) at Little East Conference foe UMass-Boston to wrap up the 2017 season on Thursday evening. With the losses, the Colonials finished the slate at 15-20 overall and 3-11 in conference play, while the Beacons improved to 29-9 and 11-3.

Senior Bryan Harper (Ledyard, CT), junior Clete LoRusso (New Milford, CT) and rookie Matt Mancini (Waterbury, CT) each finished with 2-for-4 showings at the plate for the Colonials.

    MADISON, NJ – After suffering a heartbreaking extra innings loss to cross-state LEC rival Eastern Connecticut on Sunday, the Western Connecticut baseball squad rebounded with a 14-7 victory at non-league foe FDU-Florham on Tuesday evening. Seniors EJ Lavoie (East Granby, CT) and Frank Vartuli (Westport, CT) each notched three RBI’s, while rookie Tyler Gibbs (New Britain, CT) pushed a pair across the plate for the Colonials. Senior starting pitcher Daniel Hedden (West Cornwall, CT) earned the win, improving to 2-3 overall, while tossing seven and striking out six for the visitors.

Senior first baseman Frank Vartuli (Westport, CT) led the Colonials with a 2-for-5 showing from the plate with an RBI.

    DANBURY, CT – The Western Connecticut State University baseball team moved to 14-16 overall and 3-8 in Little East Conference play following a doubleheader split with visiting league rival Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon at Westside Field on Senior Day. Junior third baseman Bill Buscetto (Old Lyme, CT) paced the Colonials with three hits, while classmate outfielder Joel Luna (Queens Village, NY) added two hits and a game-high three RBI’s as their rally came up short in Game One, falling 6-5. WestConn rebounded with a 4-2 win in the nightcap as senior shortstop EJ Lavoie (East Granby, CT) went 3-for-3 with an RBI.

    DARTMOUTH, MA – After being postponed on Saturday due to poor weather conditions, the Western Connecticut baseball squad split a doubleheader at Little East Conference foe UMass-Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon. The Colonials pounded out 10 hits en route to an 8-4 win in Game One. In the nightcap, WestConn could not hold on to an early lead as they were downed 5-4.

    DANBURY, CT – Senior right-handed flamethrower Daniel Hedden (West Cornwall, CT) tossed eight innings while scattering just four hits and striking out four to lead the Western Connecticut State University baseball squad to a 9-1 victory over visiting non-conference opponent John Jay College on Thursday night at Westside Field. Senior Frank Vartuli (Westport, CT) and junior Joe Daigle (Southington, CT) each pounded out a pair of hits, while senior Dave Palladino (Southington, CT) notched a game-high three RBI’s for the Colonials.

With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 11-14 overall and 1-6 in league play, while the Warriors improved to 13-10 and 3-4.

In Game One, junior shortstop Bill Buscetto (Old Lyme, CT) smacked an RBI double to push the lone run across for the Colonials as they fell, 9-1. Senior first baseman Frank Vartuli (Westport, CT) paced the visitors in the nightcap, going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI's as WestConn was downed, 8-4.

Senior catcher Bryan Harper (Ledyard, CT) paced the Colonials with a pair of hits in the Game One loss, 16-2. In Game Two, senior outfielder Tre' Gause (Brookfield, CT) notched a 3-for-3 performance to lead WestConn as their rally came up short, falling 9-6.

    NEW BRITAIN, CT - Despite a 4-for-6 performance which included a game-high six RBI's from senior shortstop EJ Lavoie, the Western baseball team fell to LEC nemesis Plymouth State, 13-11, in the opening game of a doubleheader being played at Central Connecticut State University on Saturday. The Colonials rebounded with a 12-6 victory in Game Two.

    MAHWAH, NJ – After a stellar performance during the Florida trip earlier this season, senior first baseman Frank Vartuli (Westport, CT) continued his torrid hitting pace as he went 3-for-3 with three RBI’s to lead the WestConn baseball team past non-league Ramapo College – previously ranked No. 6 in the nation earlier this season – on Monday afternoon, 6-2. The Colonials improved to 9-7 overall, while the host Roadrunners dropped to 7-9.

In Game One, the Colonials were edged, 9-8, before rebounding to take Game Two, 5-3. WestConn concludes the Spring Trip in Florida against St. Lawrence on Monday at 9 a.m.

In Game One, the Colonials downed Carroll 17-9. Senior shortstop EJ Lavoie (East Granby, CT) paced WestConn with a 4-for-5 performance, while driving in four runs. The nightcap saw WestConn get edged by St. Joseph's (LI), 9-7. Junior catcher Zach Sagar (Trumbull, CT) led the Colonials with four hits, while senior Frank Vartuli (Westport, CT) added a pair of hits and an RBI.

The Colonials upended Wisconsin-Stout, 20-3, in the opener before falling to Wooster, 12-5, in Game Two. Senior first baseman Frank Vartuli (Westport, CT) racked up five RBI’s, while junior Clete LoRusso (New Milford, CT) drove in four to lead WestConn against Stout. Senior catcher Bryan Harper (Ledyard, CT) paced the Colonials with a 2-for-5 outing while stealing a base for the Colonials in the loss to undefeated Wooster (5-0).

WestConn's will be held on Thursday, March 2 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Midtown Campus Student Center.
