POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – After winning its past two straight conference games, the Western Connecticut State University field hockey team fell at non-league opponent Vassar College, 11-1, on Wednesday evening at Weinberg Field. With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 2-3 overall, while the Brewers improved to 4-1.
The hosts used a well-balanced scoring attack as eight different players notched goals en route to the victory. WestConn sophomore forward Carly Matasavage (Middlebury, CT) tallied her second goal of the season to break up the shutout with less than a minute remaining in the contest.
"Vassar is an exceptional team with disciplined players. We learned a lot about ourselves and how we respond under adversity tonight," said WestConn head coach Dani McDonnell following the loss.
The Colonials will seek to rebound when they return to action at Little East Conference foe Worcester State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
