Tyler Rowe Continues His Tear, Scores 30 As WestConn Defeats UMass Dartmouth, 91-79

DANBURY, CT - Junior Tyler Rowe (East Hartford, CT) scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team to a 91-79 victory over visiting University of Massachusetts at Feldman Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Rowe, who celebrated his scoring of career point 1,000 last Wednesday before the tip, had a balanced linescore with six rebounds and tying Shea Tracy (New Britain, CT) with a team-high five assists.  Rowe was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free-throw line as the Colonials converted on 23-of-27 from the stripe in the win.

Joining Rowe in double figures was Aaron Samuel (Stratford, CT) with 13 points while Rashard Rodriguez (Trumbull, CT) and Tracy added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Corsairs, now 11-8 overall and 4-5 in the conference, were paced by Joshua Imadiyi's (Lynn, MA) 27 points.  Brandon Williams, Jr. (Dorchester, MA) chipped in 19 points while dishing out a game-high six dimes.

Atakan Akcam (Ankara, Turkey), Arinze Obiora (Logos, Nigeria) and Jake Ashworth (Fairhaven, MA) each tallied 10 points for UMD.

WestConn, now 10-8 overall and locked in second place in the LEC at 7-2, led from start to finish.

A lay-up from Rashard Rodriguez, with 1:25 remaining before intermission, put the Colonials up by 10 points, 42-32, and the hosts led by double digits the rest of the way.  Their largest lead was 24 points, 75-51, following a three-point bucket from Chaunce Dunbar (Windsor, CT) with 8:36 remaining in the contest.

WestConn will take advantage of a league mid-week bye to get in a pair of home games.  It takes on Elms College on Monday, January 29 at 7 pm.  The home stand continues on Wednesday when the Colonials play host to intra-state foe Connecticut College.  Tip-off against the Camels is also dialed in for 7 pm.
