DANBURY, CT - Junior Tyler Rowe (East Hartford, CT) scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team to a 91-79 victory over visiting University of Massachusetts at Feldman Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Rowe, who celebrated his scoring of career point 1,000 last Wednesday before the tip, had a balanced linescore with six rebounds and tying Shea Tracy (New Britain, CT) with a team-high five assists. Rowe was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free-throw line as the Colonials converted on 23-of-27 from the stripe in the win.
The Corsairs, now 11-8 overall and 4-5 in the conference, were paced by Joshua Imadiyi's (Lynn, MA) 27 points. Brandon Williams, Jr. (Dorchester, MA) chipped in 19 points while dishing out a game-high six dimes.
Atakan Akcam (Ankara, Turkey), Arinze Obiora (Logos, Nigeria) and Jake Ashworth (Fairhaven, MA) each tallied 10 points for UMD.
WestConn, now 10-8 overall and locked in second place in the LEC at 7-2, led from start to finish.
A lay-up from Rashard Rodriguez, with 1:25 remaining before intermission, put the Colonials up by 10 points, 42-32, and the hosts led by double digits the rest of the way. Their largest lead was 24 points, 75-51, following a three-point bucket from Chaunce Dunbar (Windsor, CT) with 8:36 remaining in the contest.
WestConn will take advantage of a league mid-week bye to get in a pair of home games. It takes on Elms College on Monday, January 29 at 7 pm. The home stand continues on Wednesday when the Colonials play host to intra-state foe Connecticut College. Tip-off against the Camels is also dialed in for 7 pm.
