PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The Little East Conference (LEC) announced its 2017-18 women's basketball major award recipients and all-conference selections following a vote of the leagues eight head coaches Tuesday. Eastern Connecticut University nearly swept the major awards, with senior Tarchee Brown (Rockville, Conn.) named Player of the Year, sophomore Carlos Gonzalez (Springfield, Mass.) Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Bill Geitner named Coach of the Year. UMass Boston freshman Michael Boyd (Malden, Mass.) was named Rookie of the Year.

Brown became the third Eastern Connecticut student-athlete to be named LEC Player of the Year after leading the Warriors to their fifth straight conference regular season title and second consecutive tournament championship. He has started in all 28 games so far this season, averaging 19.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game to go with 97 assists and 27 steals. Brown was elected a First-Team All-Conference selection in each of his four collegiate seasons, and was named the 2015 LEC Rookie of the Year.

Gonzalez is the third individual from Eastern Connecticut to be named the LEC Defensive Player of the Year after starting in 27 of his 28 games played this season. He leads the conference in steals (89) and assists (151) and is second in assist to turnover ratio (2.9) while averaging 11.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest. The Warriors own the No. 1 scoring defense in the league (68.5 points per game), and lead the conference as a team in steals per contest (10.2).

Boyd started in all but two of his 27 games played during his first collegiate season, averaging 14.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game while totaling 65 assists and 42 steals, while helping lead the Beacons to a 16-11 overall record and a third-place finish in the final conference standings at 9-5. He was additionally named a Second-Team All-Conference and All-Rookie selection, and is the ninth UMass Boston student-athlete to be named LEC Rookie of the Year.

Geitner was named the LEC coach of the Year for the sixth time in his career after guiding the Warriors to the 2017-18 conference regular season and tournament championships; he was first named LEC Coach of the Year in 2010. The 16th-year bench boss has led Eastern Connecticut to a 25-3 overall record so far this season, and the program's fifth conference tournament title.
