DANBURY, CT – Junior attack Ryan Foster (Ledyard, CT) scored five goals to help the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team to a convincing 16-10 victory over Castleton State College at The WAC on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore net minder Kevin Seery (East Lyme, CT) had a solid game for the Colonials, making 12 saves before yielding to Billy Thomson (Southington, CT) for the final 1:14. Thomson made a pair of saves and allowed two goals in his short stint.
Eric Horsfield (Tolland, CT) suffered the loss in goal for the Spartan, now 1-2. He made one save and allowed six goals over the first 23 minutes. Peter Latulippe (Tyngsboro, MA) went the rest of the way and made 10 saves for Castleton.
After a tight first half, which Western lead 6-3, it went on to score three straight goals in the third quarter, including one each from Forster and Wilson. Spencer Penoro (Orange, CT) sandwiched in his third goal of the season.
Western's lead grew to nine goals, 16-7 when Foster netted his team-leading 16th goal of the season with 8:29 left in the game.
Castleton scored three unanswered goals inside the final two minutes to draw within six goals, but time was not on its side.
Alex Green (Brantree, VT) and Spencer Hunt (Johnson, VT) led the visitors with three goals each while Zach Davidson (South Burlington, VT) tallied a goal and assisted on five others on the afternoon.
Western held a slim advantage on ground balls, edging the Spartans, 39-36 and ripping off 10 more shots, 46-36.
The Colonials travel to Vassar College for a meeting with the Brewers this Wednesday, March 13. Face off is slated for 4:30 pm in Poughkeepsie, NY.
