Foley’s three goals, five assists, help Western to 25-11 win at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, NY — Junior Nick Foley (Walpole, MA) scored three goals and handed out five assists as the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team found the net an impressive 25 times in the Colonials' 25-11 win at Manhattanville College Wednesday evening.

Also scoring multiple goals for Western were sophomore Nate Wilson (Norwich, CT) with six goals, senior Ryan Foster (Ledyard, CT) with four goals, sophomore John Foristall (Danbury, CT) with three goals, and freshman Devon McLaughlin (New Milford, CT) with two goals.  Junior Anthony Nejame (Danbury, CT) scored one goal and recorded two assists.

For Manhattanville College, CJ Paniccia scored three goals; Colin Morrissey, Connor Normandin, and Ed Motherway each scored two goals; and Andrew Murray and Eric Brown each scored once.  Morrissey led Manhattanville in assists with three.

Western rushed out to an early 3-0 lead after five minutes had been played in the first quarter, but Manhattanville scored the game's next three goals to even the score at 3-3 with six minutes remaining in the period.  Wilson scored for Western with less than a minute to play in the first, to give the Colonials a 6-5 lead.

Wilson scored again early in the second quarter to spark a 4-0 Western run and a 10-5 lead for the Colonials.  Western outscored Manhattanville 4-2 over the final 10 minutes of the period for a 14-7 lead at intermission.

Western opened the third quarter with another 4-0 run to take a commanding 18-7 lead.  At the end of three quarters, Western's lead was 19-9.

Wilson opened the fourth quarter scoring for Western, and after two Manhattanville goals, the Colonials scored the game's final five goals for a final margin of 25-11

For the game, Western held a 60-33 advantage in shots and a 24-12 edge in ground balls.  Junior Kevin Seery (East Lyme, CT) recorded 8 saves in goal for Western to earn the victory.  Ian Reill made 12 saves for Manhattanville, but suffers the loss.

Western is now 1-1 on the season, while Manhattanville falls to 0-3.  The Colonials return to action on Sunday, March 9th, when they host Plattsburgh State.  Game time is slated for 2:00pm.
