DANBURY, CT - Sophomore Jeremy Cardella (Tolland, CT) pulled out victories at sixth-flight singles and teamed with Jacques Fortier (Southbury, CT) at sixth doubles, but the Western Connecticut State University men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to visiting Farmingdale State College at Westside Courts on Sunday afternoon.
To open the match against the Rams, Cardella and Fortier defeated Herlis Reyes and Joseph Napoli, 8-6 at sixth-flight pairs.
Zachary Baker and Dyland Murarka captured #1 doubles over Jason Hipona (Orange, CT) and Adam Howard (Waterford, CT), 8-3. By the same score, Patrick Madigan and Bradley Maslak defeated Matthew O'Keefe (Cromwell, CT) and Jeffrey Hensley (Naugatuck, CT).
It took every bit of three sets as Cardella defeated Elijah McCall, 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 in sixth solos.
Baker cruised to a straight-set, 6-0, 6-0 victory over Hipona at first singles.
Murarka rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win as second singles before Maslak, Josh Kaplan and Madigan captured 6-3, 6-2 victories over Hensley, Fortier and O'Keefe at third through fifth singles.
WestConn drops to 2-3 on the season while Farmingdale State evens its record at 3-3.
The Colonials play host to Nichols College on Wednesday, April 5. First serve is slated for 4 pm.
