DANBURY, CT - The Western men's tennis team snapped a two-game losing skid as they downed LEC powerhouse Southern Maine, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon at The Westside Courts. With the win, the Colonials improved to 3-4 overall, while the Huskies dropped to 0-2.
After losing the opening two matches of singles play, WestConn erupted to seize the final four matches. Junior Adam Howard (Waterford, CT) downed Andy MacEachern, capturing the third set tie break (6-4, 1-6, 7-6). Moments later, classmate Jeff Hensley (Naugatuck, CT) knocked off Chase Orava (6-3, 6-4). The barrage continued as senior Matt O'Keefe (Cromwell, CT) and rookie Jacques Fortier (Southbury, CT) put together dominating peformances.
In double play, Fortier and O'Keefe combined to win their match, 8-4, before the duo of Howard and Hensley breezed thru their match.
WestConn returns to action against visiting non-league foe Lehman on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
