CLEMONT, FL - The Western Connecticut State University softball team suffered back-to-back shut outs on Monday morning. As the sun came up over the horizon, the Colonials fell to Arcadia University, 8-0 in six innings. They dropped a 12-0 five-inning decision to Washington University of St. Louis in the daycap.
WestConn falls to 4-6 on the season and will enjoy a day off in sunny Florida on Tuesday as the rest of us shovel out of a late-season blizzard.
The Colonials dropped an 8-0 decision to Arcadia University in six innings.
Five different WestConn players recorded singles off starter and winner Kylee Schwind (2-0).
Angelina Miller (Holbrook, NY) drops to 1-1 on the season for the Colonials. She lasted just a third of an inning. She allowed four runs, two of them earned, on one hit while striking out one and walking two.
Junior Jenna Gaudioso (East Haven, CT) and freshman Charline Placzynski (Bristol, CT) registered a hit apiece as the Colonials were stifled by junior righty Anna McKee (St. Louis, MO).
McKee struck out nine and walked one over five innings of work in the mercy-rule shortened game. She faced just 18 batters.
The Bears took advantage of five WestConn errors, scoring six unearned run of its first seven to cross the plate.
Sara Tenke (Glen Cove, NY) suffered the loss for the Colonials. She allowed 12 runs, five of them earned, on 12 hits while striking out two and walking a pair. A double by Mikaela Arrendondo (Orland Park, IL), in the third inning, was the only extra-base hit in the game.
Leading the way for WashU were Arrendondo, Hannah Mehrle (Liberty Township, OH), Taylor Arends (River Forest, IL) who each drove in three runs on Monday.
