STATEN ISLAND, NY - The WestConn softball team dropped to 10-12 overall following a pair of losses at the College of Staten Island on Friday afternoon. The Colonials gave up just one run in the opener. However, that was all the host Dolphins would need en route to a 1-0 win. In Game Two, the hosts downed WestConn, 13-0.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Jaclyn Smith (Sandwich, MA) tossed six strong innings, while surrendering just one earned run, while striking out four for th Colonials. The lone run of the game came when Staten Island hit into a bases loaded fielder's choice.
The Dolphins bats came to life in the nightcap as they put up 13 runs on 10 hits. The Colonials had a tough time defensively, as they finished with seven errors. WestConn junior second baseman Tori Dugan (Norwalk, CT) broke up the no-hit bid.
The Colonials return to action for a doubleheader against visiting LEC foe Southern Maine on Saturday at Noon.
