    Women’s Basketball Downed at LEC Foe UMass-Dartmouth, 73-59 DARTMOUTH, MA – Despite 15 points each from senior guard Emily Dobson (Westerly, RI) and sophomore sharpshooter Jancy Sherwood (Poughquag, NY), the Western Connecticut women’s basketball team saw its eight-game winning streak snapped, falling at LEC foe UMass-Dartmouth, 73-59, on Sunday afternoon. Junior guard Kaitlyn LaBonte (South Windsor, CT) added 10 points, while rookie guard Genesis Torres (Stratford, CT) tallied eight to go along with six rebounds for the Colonials – who dropped to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Corsairs improved to 10-2 and 2-1.

    Women's Basketball Outlasts Manhattanville, 60-55 PURCHASE, NY - After capturing the crown while hosting the Hat City Tournament over the weekend, the Western women's basketball team extended its winning streak to eight games as they outlasted non-league foe Manhattanville College, 60-55, on Monday afternoon. Senior guard Samantha Smith (Wallingford, CT) paced the Colonials with a game-high 14 points, while rookie guard Gabrielle Hurlbert (Thomaston, CT) and senior guard Emily Dobson (Westerly, RI) chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

    Women's Basketball Downs Mount Saint Mary, 56-52 Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team overcame a 15 point halftime deficit to tie the score in the fourth quarter, but dropped a hard fought 56-52 non-conference decision to Western Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) led the Mount with 15 points and posted her fourth double-double of the season in the team's first loss of the year.

Rookie guard Gabrielle Hurlbert (Thomaston, CT) and junior guard Kaitlyn LaBonte (South Windsor, CT) chipped in with 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Colonials. Two Ospreys registered double-doubles as Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/CH West) scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while frontcourt mate Najha Treadwell (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) added 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Colonials women open the season on Tuesday, November 15 when they play host to The Sage Colleges at 7 pm. The Western men open the season at the Dutch Burch Tip-Off Tournament at Lycoming College on Friday, November 18.
