Comeback falls short, Western falls to Buffalo State, 13-12

CLERMONT, FL (Mar. 27) - Trailing by three goals with just under 12 minutes to play, senior Nicole Perrone (Brookfield, CT) score two of her four goals down the stretch, but Buffalo State held on for a 13-12 victory as the Colonials wrapped up their Florida trip Wednesday morning.

In addition to Perrone's four goals, senior Devon Edwards (Islip, NY) scored four times and added two assists.  Junior Kristen Hudock (Newtown, CT) scored twice and senior Lindsay Gorman (Killingworth, CT) and freshman Carly Altemose (Startford, CT) each scored one goal to account for the Western scoring.

Buffalo State jumped out to an early 6-2 lead after 10 minutes had been played, but Edwards and Perrone each scored twice to spark a Western rally that evened the score at 8-8 at intermission.

Western held the momentum to start the second half as well, scoring two goals to take a 10-8 lead with 20 minutes remaining, but Buffalo State dominated the next 10 minutes scoring five unanswered goals for a 13-10 advantage.  Perrone's final two markers came at the 6:20 mark on an assist from Edwards and unassisted with 3:26 remaining, but the Buffalo State defense was solid in the closing minutes, making the final margin 13-12 in favor of Buffalo State.

Western's junior keeper Karli Portnoy (Sea Cliff, NY) finished with 12 saves in goal, but Western falls to 2-3 on the season.  The Colonials return to action on Saturday, March 30th, when the host Little East Conference rival UMass Dartmouth at the Westside Athletic Complex.  Game time is slated for 12:00 noon.
