Brooke Baldelli Nearly Brings WestConn Women's Lacrosse All The Way Back

MANSFIELD, CT - Freshman Brooke Baldelli (New Fairfield, CT) scored five goals in the final 19:50 and nearly brought the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team all the way back, from an eight-goal deficit, before they fell to intra-state rival Eastern Connecticut State University in the Semifinals of the Little East Conference Championships on Thursday.

The Colonials, which end their season at 9-10, scored six of the game's final seven goals, with Olivia Kosilla (Ellington, CT) notching the other marker during that stretch.  She assisted on three of Baldelli's goals in the loss and finished with six total points on the day.

Senior Destinee Carey (New Milford, CT) scored in the opening minutes to put WestConn up, 1-0, but the Warriors' defense held her scoreless the rest of the way.

Katie Burke, Alyssa Powers and Paige Schneider each tallied three goals for Eastern Connecticut.

Burke's unassisted goal, with 25:41 remaining in the game, proved to be the game-winning goal for the Warriors, which improve to 14-4.

Taylor Emmerson earned the victory in goal after making 12 saves.  WestConn's Missy O'Donnell (Bridgeport, CT) made six saves.

Eastern Connecticut will face Plymouth State University in the title game on Saturday.  The Panthers edged Keene State College, 9-8, in the other semifinal match up.
