WEST HARTFORD, CT - With a victory in the meet's final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Western Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team battled to a 136-136 tie at the University of St. Joseph on Friday night.
The greater Danbury quartet of Sarah Sheaffer (New Fairfield, CT), Juliana Bell (Bethel, CT), Alexa Collins (New Milford, CT) and Ourania Koutoumba (Danbury, CT) finished the 200-yard relay with a time of 2:04.11 to lift the Colonials from a 130-125 deficit going into the final event.
The Colonials posted three individual-event double winners against the Blue Jays on Friday.
Brianna Christiano (Prospect, CT) captured the 200-yard freestyle (2:13.94) and the 50-yard butterfly (30.12). Olivia Wright (East Hartford, CT) was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (28.21) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:33.90). Rounding out the double winners was Rachel Peet (New Fairfield, CT) who touched the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly (3:05.23) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.80).
Western is now 0-2-1 on the season and travel to Wesleyan University on December 3 or the Division III Connecticut Cup.
