NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI - Sophomore Brianna Christiano (Prospect, CT) and rookie Olivia Wright (East Hartford, CT) each notched a trio of first place finishes to lead the Western women's swimming team to a 121-64 victory over Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon.
Christiano won the 200-yard freestyle (2:19.26) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.51) and swam the second leg of the first place 200-yard medley relay (2:10.67), while Wright captured first place in the 50-yard freestyle (28.52) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.77). Wright also swam the lead leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay (2:10.67).
"We had some really good swims and races today and were able to win the meet. Most importantly, we continued to see improvements in times for the whole team. We'll try to carry that momentum into our Friday home meet against Westfield State and finish the season strong," said Colonials assistant coach Nate Stenabaugh after the win.
Western returns to action for the aformentioned meet at 6 p.m.
