DANBURY, CT - The Western Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the regular season by celebrating the career of its lone senior Alexa Collins (New Milford, CT) prior to the start of the its meet with Westfield State University at the O'Neill Pool on Friday night.
"Alex (Collins) is one of the hardest working student-athletes we have had from the beginning," said assistant coach Nate Stenabaugh. "Our coaching staff never had to push her, she instinctively gave us everything she had throughout her career."
The Owls captured the meet, 186-95 and improve to 5-3 in dual-meet action. Western falls to 1-5-1.
Sophomore Brianna Christiano (Prospect, CT) captured the 50-yard butterfly event with a time of 29.82.
Olivia Wright (East Hartford, CT) out-touched the field in the 100-yard freestyle, tapping the board at 1:03.01
Junior Sarah Sheaffer (New Fairfield, CT) earned second-place finishes in both the one and three-meter dives. She tallied 166.57 points on the one-meter plank as Westfield State' Monique Groux (Agawam, MA) registered 222.97 points.
On the high dive, Groux checked in at 232.43 while Sheaffer accumulated 168.53 points.
Multiple winners for the Owls include Shannon Fitzsimmons (Andover, MA) who captured the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.09) and the 100-yard individual medley (1:08.78).
Anna Boucher (Suffield, CT) double-dipped victories in the 50 and 100-yard backstroke events with times of 30.60 and 1:09.15, respectively.
Tia Pariseau (Holden, MA) recorded wins in the 50-yard freestyle (25.75) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.85) while Emma Colcord (Andover, MA) touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:16.34) and 500-yard freestyle (5:58.72).
The Colonials will head to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth next Saturday, February 4 for the Little East Conference Championships.
