Women's Swimming & Diving Edges John Jay and Host New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The WestConn women's swimming and diving squad improved to 3-4 overall after downing John Jay College, 98-96, and host The College of New Rochelle, 123-56, in a tri-meet on Thursday night. The pair of victories extends the Colonials' win streak to three meets.

"We were able to excel in the back half of the meet to clinch the win against John Jay. It was a great start to our long weekend of meets," stated WestConn head coach Jill Cook. 

Seniors Sarah Sheaffer (New Fairfield, CT) and Holly Bly (Watertown, CT)  finished one-two in the 1000-yard freestyle with times of 13:32.11 and 13:41.69, respectively.

Later in the tri-meet, Rachel Peet (New Fairfield, CT) and Oliva Wright (East Hartford, CT) captured first and second place, respectively, in the 100-yard freestyle.  Peet touched the wall at 1:00.87 while Wright followed at 1:02.50.

Annelise Alfieri (Southington, CT) earned a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 6:26.03.

The Colonials' 200-yard freestyle relay team of Magdalena Bassendowski (Trumbull, CT), Sheaffer, Bly and Juliana Bell (Bethel, CT) took top honors with a time of 2:07.27.

WestConn continues its busy week with a dual meet at Westfield State University on Saturday at 1 pm, then host Plymouth State University on Sunday, January 28 at 1 pm.
