Women's Tennis Falls At Salem State, 9-0

Salem, Mass. – Salem State defeated Western Connecticut 9-0 in the final match of the season for the Vikings on Saturday afternoon at the Central Campus Tennis Courts. Salem State concludes their season with an overall record of 3-9, and finish 2-6 in the Little East Conference. The Colonials slip to 3-10 and 0-7 in the LEC. 

Madeline Allaire (Columbus, Ohio) improved to 5-2 in conference with a  victory at No. 1 singles over Carole Allers (Wilton, Conn.) winning a third set tie-break. Allaire also combined with Ann Spence (Attleboro, Mass.) to pick up a win at first doubles, 9-7 over Allers and Carine Jacque' (New London, Conn.). 

The Vikings swept through the final two doubles matches as  Meredith MacDonald (Lynn, MA) and Melina Mavroforos (Amesbury, MA) and Cassie Morrison (Clinton, Mass.) and Kristin Klimowicz (Ipswich, Mass.) both earned 8-3 victories at second and third doubles respectively.

Jacque'  had a lead in the first set at second singles before withdrawing due to injury to give the win to Morrison. Spence defeated Sarah Warkoski (Bristol, Conn.) at third singles while MacDonald, Klimowicz and Mavroforos all won in straight sets at fourth through sixth singles for the Vikings. 

Western Connecticut will host Southern Maine on Sunday, October 16th at 12:00 PM in their season finale.
