WEST HARTFORD, CT - Junior Carole Allers (Wilton, CT) and sophomore Emma Chapman (Danbury, CT) continued their torrid pace, however, the Western Connecticut State University women's tennis team was edged at non-conference opponent St. Joseph's on Thursday night, 5-4.
The duo combined for yet another doubles win, 8-3, over Lucy Roberge and Leah Nguyent before winning their respective singles matches over the same opponents later in the day. Sophomore Pooja Dudhedia (Brookfield, CT) followed up their performances with another dramatic victory. This time, she bested Ashley Savino 6-4, 3-6, 12-10 in a nailbiting match.
"I expected the match was going to come down to the final few matches and it did. We were missing a couple of starters today, causing some players to play up in the ranks but I was proud of their effort," said WestConn head coach Shawn Stillman following the action.
With the loss, the Colonials fell to 5-4 overall, while the Bluejays improved to 1-4. WestConn returns to action against visiting LEC foe Rhode Island College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
