Women’s Tennis Falls to Rhode Island College, 8-1

DANBURY, CT – In a match delayed twice by rain, the Western Connecticut State University women's tennis fell to visiting Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon at Westside Courts. Junior Carole Allers (Wilton, CT) and sophomore Emma Chapman (Danbury, CT) teamed up for the Colonials' lone win, avenging a doubles loss they suffered to the Anchorwomen last year. Junior Lianne Maynard (Milford, CT) was a late scratch from the lineup due to an injury after her doubles match, forcing the WestConn players in the lineup to move up a spot.

"Rhode Island is a good team. I knew we had our work cut out for us. Our players didn't give up though. They played hard. Hopefully Maynard will be back in the lineup soon," said WestConn head coach Shawn Stillman following the defeat.

The Colonials return to action at non-conference opponent Bridgewater State on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
