Western Volleyball splits with Plymouth State and Maine-Presque Isle

PLYMOUTH, NH - After dropping a 3-1 decision to Plymouth State University, the Western Connecticut State University Volleyball team rebounded to post a 3-0 victory over Maine-Presque Isle Saturday afternoon.

In Western's first match of the day, the Colonials dropped the first two sets by identical 25-17 scores before rebounding to win a tight third set, 26-24.  Plymouth State left little doubt about the outcome of the match in the fourth set, taking a decisive 25-11 win and a 3-1 victory for the match.

Junior Caitlin Van Camp (Redding, CT) led the Colonial offense with 10 kills.  Junior Jenny Hogan (Franklin Square, NY) had 27 assists and senior Rachel Volpe (Southington, CT) led the defense with 13 digs.

Western's second match was a dominant performance, as the Colonials won in straight sets, 25-5, 25-13, and 25-9.  Junior Heather Williams (Kingston, NY) led all hitters with 11 kills, followed by Van Camp with nine.  Freshman Danielle Kaminsky (Southington, CT) took over the setting duties for Hogan and handed out 35 assists, while also leading the defense with six digs.

With the split, Western concludes the regular season with a record of 24-8, 4-3 in the Little East Conference.  The Colonials return to action on Tuesday, November 5th, when they host Eastern Connecticut in the opening round of the LEC Tournament.  Game time at Feldman Arena has yet to be determined.
