DANBURY, CT – Despite match-highs of three solo blocks from rookie Alyssa Dam (Poughkeepsie, NY) and three service aces from senior Cady Cordes (Fallon, NV), the Western Connecticut women's volleyball team fell to visiting non-conference foe New Paltz State, 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-20), Wednesday night at Feldman Arena. With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 9-5 overall, while the Hawks improved to 10-7.
Senior Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, NY) paced the visitors with a match-high 13 kills, while classmate Chantal Ramhorst (Woodcliff Lake, NY) chipped in with 12 kills. Senior setter Danielle Kaminsky (Southington, CT) dished out 25 assists for Western, while junior Maddie Zwickl (Chester, NY) tallied 38 for New Paltz.
Each set consisted of neck-and-neck play, however, the Colonials committed eight service errors in the match when the momentum seemed to be headed in their direction. Those swings made the difference as the Hawks were able to outlast the hosts.
The Colonials return to action at the Roger Williams Tournament on Friday when they meet the hosts at 5 p.m.
